The Milwaukee MIL6232-21 is a band saw with a variable speed dial and trigger, 4-7/8 inch deep cutting capacity, with kit box, 10.5/5.5 amps, 120V AC, 0-420 SFPM, maximum rectangular capacity 4-7/8 x 4-7/8 inch, maximum round capacity 4-7/8 inch. Previously 6232-6N.

The variable speed is the specification and it is what makes this a proper metal-cutting tool rather than a saw that happens to cut metal.

Blade speed has to match the material, and the physics is unforgiving. Cutting speed determines how much heat goes into the tooth edge. Run a blade too fast in stainless or hardened steel and the teeth reach a temperature where they lose hardness — and once a tooth is annealed, it is done. Run it too slow in aluminium and the chips weld to the teeth and pack the gullets.

Zero to 420 surface feet per minute covers the range from difficult alloys at the slow end to mild steel and aluminium at the top.

The 4-7/8 inch capacity is the other defining number: it is what the saw can swallow. That covers substantial pipe, structural sections, and bar, which is why deep-cut portable bandsaws are the standard tool for cutting installed pipe and steel in place — no sparks, no chop saw, and a square cut.
