Product Highlights
Description
The Milwaukee MIL48-40-4515 is a circular saw blade, 8 inch diameter, 42 teeth, 5/8 inch arbor, 5,000 RPM speed rating, carbide tipped, for metal, weight 1 lb.
Note a data error: the source lists a plate thickness of 1/4 inch and a kerf of 3/32 inch. That is physically impossible — kerf is the width of the slot the blade cuts, and it must always exceed the plate thickness, or the blade would bind in its own cut the instant it entered the material. The comparable blades in this range list a 0.041 inch plate with a 0.063 inch kerf, which is the correct relationship. Both figures here need verifying at source.
The blade itself is a metal-cutting blade and the speed rating tells you so: 5,000 RPM against 8,000 for the wood blades. Cutting metal with a toothed carbide blade requires a slower rim speed — too fast and the teeth overheat, the carbide softens, and the edges are gone in one cut.
That means this blade belongs on a saw whose speed matches it. Fitting a metal-cutting blade to a fast wood saw runs it past its rating and destroys it.
Forty-two teeth on an 8 inch blade is a fine pitch, which metal requires: several teeth must stay engaged, and small chips are what a carbide tooth can survive.
Applications include steel studs, conduit, and light structural cutting.
