Description
The Milwaukee MIL48-40-0720 is a circular saw blade, 7-1/4 inch diameter, 24 teeth, 5/8 inch arbor, 0.041 inch plate thickness, 0.063 inch kerf, 8,000 RPM speed rating, cobalt infused tungsten carbide, ATB grind.
Twenty-four teeth on a 7-1/4 inch blade identifies this immediately: it is a framing blade. Tooth count on a circular saw blade is the whole specification, and it is a direct trade between speed and finish.
Few teeth means large gullets, which carry big chips out of the cut fast. A 24 tooth blade rips through framing lumber, plywood, and dimensional timber at speed, and it leaves a rough edge. That is exactly right for work that will be covered.
More teeth means a finer cut and a slower one. A 40 tooth blade leaves an edge you can finish. Using a 24 tooth blade on trim produces tearout; using a 40 tooth blade to frame a house wastes a day and burns the blade.
The kerf and plate figures are worth reading together: a 0.041 inch plate with a 0.063 inch kerf means the teeth are set wider than the body, which is what stops the plate binding in its own cut.
ATB is alternate top bevel — teeth bevelled alternately left and right, which slices wood fibres cleanly rather than chiselling them.
Applications include framing, decking, and rough carpentry.
