The Milwaukee MIL48-11-2401 is an M12 REDLITHIUM CP1.5 battery pack.

Note the platform: this is M12, not M18. Milwaukee's two cordless platforms are not compatible — an M12 pack does not fit an M18 tool and vice versa. That is worth flagging because both platforms appear in this catalogue and the packs look broadly similar.

CP is the compact designation and 1.5 is the amp-hour figure, which makes this the small end of the M12 range.

That is entirely appropriate to the platform. M12 exists because a 12 volt tool can be made small — genuinely small, small enough to work one-handed in a panel, a cabinet, an engine bay, or a ceiling void. Putting a large heavy pack on an M12 tool defeats the reason for choosing M12 in the first place. The compact pack keeps the tool the size it was designed to be.

The trade is runtime and current delivery. High-drain M12 tools benefit from higher capacity packs, which deliver current with less internal resistance and less heat. For drivers, lights, and inspection tools, CP1.5 is right.

Store lithium packs around half charge, at moderate temperature, and off a hot tool.
