Milwaukee MIL48-11-1820 Electric Tools M18TM Redlithiumtm 2.0 Compact Battery

The Milwaukee MIL48-11-1820 is an M18 REDLITHIUM 2.0 compact battery. It replaces MIL48-11-1815.

Compact is the specification and it is a real choice rather than a lesser one. Battery capacity is amp-hours, and amp-hours cost size and weight. A 2.0Ah pack holds less energy than a 5.0Ah pack and it is substantially smaller and lighter.

Where that wins is on the tool. A drill with a large pack on it is nose-heavy and tall, and a tall pack is what stops the tool fitting between joists or into a cabinet. Working overhead all day, the weight difference is not academic — it is the difference between finishing and aching. For light drilling, driving, and inspection work, a compact pack is the better tool even though it holds less.

Where it loses is anything that draws current: a circular saw, a grinder, or a large impact wrench will flatten a compact pack quickly and work it hard doing so. High-drain tools want a high-capacity pack, and not only for runtime — a larger pack delivers current more comfortably and runs cooler.
