Milwaukee MIL48-00-5789 Reciprocating Saw Blade 12 Inch Bi-Metal 1 Inch 216

The Milwaukee MIL48-00-5789 is a reciprocating saw blade, bi-metal, 12 inch long, 1 inch wide, 216 teeth, 18 TPI, for metal, 0.042 inch thick, 5 pack.

Compare this against the other 12 inch 18 TPI metal blade in this range and the differences are exactly the two that matter: this one is 1 inch wide against 3/4 inch, and 0.042 inch thick against 0.035 inch. Same length, same pitch, same tooth count.

Both changes point the same way: stiffness. Width and thickness are what resist bending, and a 12 inch blade is where bending becomes the problem. A long blade under side pressure bows, wanders off the line, heats, and eventually snaps. A wider, thicker blade tracks straighter and survives the levering that a recip saw inevitably receives.

The cost is flexibility, which is not always unwanted — flush cutting and following a contour need a blade that bends. And a stiffer blade transmits more vibration to the operator.

So this is the blade for straight cuts through heavy metal, and the thinner one is for work where the blade needs to give.

Eighteen TPI is the general metal pitch: three teeth in the material at all times, which it maintains from roughly an eighth of an inch up.

Bi-metal welds high speed steel teeth to a spring steel body.

Applications include structural steel, large pipe, and heavy demolition.
