Milwaukee MIL48-00-5188 Reciprocating Saw Blade 9 Inch Bi-Metal 3/4 Inch

The Milwaukee MIL48-00-5188 is a reciprocating saw blade, bi-metal, 9 inch long, 3/4 inch wide, 18 TPI, for metal, 0.035 inch thick, 5 pack.

Note a data error before anything else: the source states a tooth count of 18 alongside 18 TPI on a 9 inch blade. Those cannot both be true — 18 teeth per inch across 9 inches is 162 teeth. The tooth count field appears to have been filled with the TPI value. The comparable 12 inch 18 TPI blade in this range is correctly listed at 216 teeth, which confirms the arithmetic.

The blade itself is the 9 inch metal-cutting workhorse. Eighteen TPI is the general metal pitch, and the rule behind it is that at least three teeth must be in the material at all times — below three, the workpiece drops between teeth, the blade grabs and snaps. Eighteen TPI keeps three engaged in anything from about an eighth of an inch up, which covers conduit, tubing, angle, and light structural.

The 9 inch length gives reach into larger sections at the cost of stiffness — a long blade flexes and wanders under side pressure.

Bi-metal welds a high speed steel tooth edge to a tough spring steel body: hard teeth on a body that bends rather than shattering.

Applications include conduit, pipe, structural sections, and maintenance.
