Blade length governs depth of cut and access in opposite directions. A 9 inch blade cuts through material a 6 inch blade cannot reach around — larger pipe, thicker sections, deeper cuts. It also needs 9 inches of clearance behind the work on the back stroke, which is why short blades exist for cavities and confined spaces.

Longer blades are also more flexible, which is a genuine trade. A 9 inch blade under side pressure bends and wanders where a 6 inch blade tracks. That flexibility is useful for flush cutting and following a contour, and a liability when a straight cut matters.

Fourteen TPI is the coarse end of the multi-material range. The governing rule — at least three teeth in the material at all times — means 14 TPI needs stock roughly a quarter inch and up. In return it clears chips and cuts fast.
