Eighteen TPI is the middle of the three 6 inch multi-material blades in this range — 14, 18, and 24 — and the middle is where most work actually happens.

The rule that governs the choice: at least three teeth must be in contact with the material at all times. Below three, the material drops between the teeth, the blade grabs, and it snaps. That sets the minimum tooth count for a given wall thickness.

Eighteen TPI keeps three teeth in anything from roughly an eighth of an inch up. That covers conduit, tubing, angle, light structural, and most of what a maintenance or service saw meets. Fourteen TPI needs thicker stock but cuts faster in it. Twenty-four is for thin-wall tube and sheet where 18 would still grab.

If a shop carries one 6 inch metal blade, 18 TPI is the one.

The 0.035 inch thickness is the general-purpose gauge — enough stiffness to track, enough flex to survive the bending a recip saw inflicts.

Bi-metal construction welds a high speed steel tooth edge to a tough spring steel body: hard teeth that hold an edge, on a body that bends rather than shattering.
