The rule governing all of them is that at least three teeth must be in contact with the material at all times. Fewer than three and the workpiece drops between the teeth, the blade grabs, hooks, and snaps. That rule sets the minimum tooth count for a given wall thickness.

Fourteen TPI is the coarse end: it needs material thick enough to keep three teeth engaged, roughly a quarter inch and up. In return it cuts faster and clears chips better than the finer blades, and it will handle wood and mixed material where 24 TPI would clog immediately.

So 14 TPI is the blade for thicker stock and mixed demolition; 24 TPI is for thin-wall tube and sheet.

The 0.035 inch thickness is the standard general-purpose gauge.
