The Milwaukee MIL4272-21 is a compact electromagnetic drill press kit, 120V AC, 9.0 amps, 1/2 inch drill capacity, 450 RPM, 750 lbs drill point pressure, including a lubricant spray bottle, nylon safety strap, two hex wrenches, and a carry case.

A magnetic drill brings a drill press to steel that cannot be brought to a drill press — structural members, beams, plate, and equipment in place. The electromagnet clamps to the work, and from there the tool is a proper drill press with a feed and a rigid spindle rather than a hand drill being wrestled.

The 750 lbs drill point pressure is the number that matters. Magnetic adhesion is what resists the drilling force, and if it lets go while the cutter is engaged, the tool spins on the end of its cord. That is a serious injury.

Which is why the nylon safety strap in the kit is not an accessory — it is the control for the failure mode the magnet cannot cover. Magnets hold by electricity, and electricity fails: a tripped breaker, a pulled cord, a generator hiccup. The strap catches the tool. It should be used every time, especially overhead or vertically.

The other limit worth knowing: magnetic holding depends on material thickness. Thin plate does not carry enough flux to develop full holding force.

450 RPM is a slow, torque-oriented speed appropriate to annular cutters.
