Metal Zinc Plenum 19x20x36 R6

The Metal Zinc 19x20x36 R6 is a 19 by 20 by 36 inch insulated plenum with R-6 insulation, for furnace and air handler connections.

The near square 19 by 20 inch cross section suits equipment with a correspondingly proportioned outlet, and the 36 inch height provides room for trunk takeoffs and for the transition to the duct system.

Plenums are produced in a wide range of specific dimensions because equipment outlets are not standardised. Cabinet widths and depths differ between manufacturers and between product lines, and using a plenum that matches the outlet directly avoids a field fabricated transition. Field transitions made too abruptly create turbulence at the highest velocity point in the system, raising static pressure and generating noise, and they introduce additional joints where leakage is proportionally most costly.

R-6 insulation reduces thermal loss from the plenum, keeps the exterior above dew point in cooling operation to prevent condensation, and absorbs blower noise at the point of generation.

Seal the equipment connection and every seam with mastic or an approved tape. Support the plenum independently so that its weight, and that of the duct connected above it, is not carried by the equipment cabinet.

Applications include residential and light commercial furnaces, air handlers, and fan coils.
