Metal Zinc Plenum 16X25X24 R6

The Metal Zinc 16X25X24 R6 is a 16 by 25 by 24 inch insulated plenum with R-6 insulation, for furnace and air handler connections.

The 24 inch height distinguishes this from the taller plenums in the range, and it is specified where vertical space is limited. Basements with low headroom, attic installations under a shallow roof, and closets with a soffit above all constrain plenum height, and a shorter plenum is frequently what makes the installation possible.

The trade-off is distribution. Air leaving the blower enters the plenum at high velocity and requires some distance to spread across the cross section before reaching the takeoffs. In a short plenum, takeoffs are necessarily closer to the equipment outlet, and the branches nearest the blower discharge tend to take a disproportionate share of the air. Where a short plenum is unavoidable, careful takeoff placement and provision for balancing dampers become correspondingly more important.

R-6 insulation reduces thermal loss, keeps the exterior surface above dew point during cooling so condensation does not form, and absorbs blower noise at its source.

Seal the equipment connection and all plenum seams with mastic or approved tape, since the plenum is the highest pressure point in the supply duct system.

Applications include residential and light commercial furnaces, air handlers, and fan coils in height constrained installations.
