Description
The Lenox LEN21072 is a 6 inch 624G reciprocating saw blade, 24 TPI, gold, 5 pack.
The 24 TPI count is the specification and it identifies this immediately as a metal-cutting blade — a fine one. Tooth count follows material: coarse for wood, fine for metal, and the governing rule is that at least three teeth must be in contact with the material at all times. Fewer than three and the blade grabs, hooks, and snaps.
That rule is what makes 24 TPI necessary for thin material. Cutting thin-wall conduit, tubing, or sheet with a coarse blade means the teeth straddle the wall — one tooth in, catching, tearing, and breaking. Twenty-four teeth per inch keeps several in the cut through material as thin as an eighth of an inch.
The trade is speed. Fine teeth cut slowly and clog on thick material. A 24 TPI blade in half-inch plate is a long afternoon.
The gold finish typically indicates a titanium coating, which reduces friction and heat — the two things that kill a blade cutting metal.
At 6 inches this is a short blade, which is stiffer and wanders less than a long one, and suits work where clearance is limited.
The 5 pack acknowledges that recip blades are consumables.
Applications include conduit, tubing, sheet metal, and general maintenance.
