Description
The Jackson Safety JKS29084 is an F40 visor face shield, propionate, clear, shape G, 9 inch high, 15-1/2 inch wide, 0.06 inch thick.
Propionate is the specification and it is the middle ground in this range — which is genuinely useful once you see what it sits between.
Polycarbonate, the F20 material, is the impact champion and it crazes under solvents. Acetate, the F30 material, has excellent chemical resistance and less impact resistance. Cellulose propionate sits between them: better chemical resistance than polycarbonate, better impact resistance and dimensional stability than acetate.
That makes the F40 the shield for work that presents both hazards at once — chemical handling that also involves mechanical risk, or processes where a shop cannot cleanly separate the two. Rather than issuing two shields and hoping the right one gets worn, propionate covers both reasonably.
The honest framing is that it is a compromise, not a winner. For pure impact, polycarbonate is better. For pure chemical exposure, acetate is better. For mixed work, propionate beats guessing.
Note the 9 inch height — an inch more coverage than the F20 shields, which matters for splash.
The 0.06 inch thickness is the heavier gauge.
A face shield is secondary protection; eye protection goes underneath.
Applications include chemical handling with mechanical hazards, laboratories, and processing.
