Product Highlights
Description
The Jackson Safety JKS14200 is a Maxview™ face shield, ratcheting style, clear, in polycarbonate.
Polycarbonate is the material specification and it is the one that matters. Polycarbonate is exceptionally impact resistant — far more so than acetate or glass — which is why it is the standard for eye and face protection against flying fragments. A grinding wheel fragment, a chip, or a snapped wire is stopped by polycarbonate.
What polycarbonate is not good at is chemical resistance. Many solvents attack it, causing crazing and a loss of the impact resistance that justified it. For chemical splash work, acetate is the correct material. Choosing on impact alone is how a shield ends up crazed and useless.
The Maxview designation refers to the shield's extended field of view — a wider window than a standard shield, which matters because a shield with restricted peripheral vision gets lifted so the wearer can see, and a lifted shield protects nothing.
The ratcheting headgear allows one-handed size adjustment, including with gloves on.
The point that belongs on every face shield: it is secondary protection. Safety glasses are worn underneath, always. The shield takes the fragment; the glasses take what gets around it.
Applications include grinding, machining, chipping, and general industrial work.
