The 4 inch crown is the middle option in this range, sitting between the F300's 3 inch and the F500's 7 inch. Crown height governs how the headgear sits on the head and how it interacts with everything else the wearer has on — and that is the practical basis for choosing between them rather than a preference. A taller crown accommodates more, sits differently, and changes where the shield's pivot falls relative to the face.

The headgear-and-shield-sold-separately model is the right way to buy faceshields. The window is the consumable: it pits under grinding sparks, scratches, and clouds. The headgear is not. Separating them means replacing what wears out and keeping what does not, and it allows one headgear to carry different windows for different tasks.

Fits over protective spectacles is a safety requirement, not a convenience. A faceshield is secondary protection and safety glasses are worn underneath it, always — the shield takes the fragment, the glasses take what gets around it. Any shield that cannot accommodate spectacles is asking the wearer to choose, and that choice should not exist.

The ratchet allows one-handed size adjustment with gloves on.
