Jackson Safety JKS14556 Headgear 117A Replacement

The Jackson Safety JKS14556 is replacement headgear, model 117A.

Welding helmet headgear is a consumable and it is worth being explicit about why, because it is the part people run past its life. The shell of a welding helmet lasts years. The headgear does not: it holds sweat, it takes UV and radiant heat every time the arc strikes, the plastic embrittles, the adjustment mechanism wears, and the pivot loses its friction.

That last failure is the one that matters. A welding helmet flips down under its own weight when the welder nods, and the pivot tension is what holds it up between welds and lets it drop cleanly. Worn tension means a hood that will not stay up, or worse, one that will not stay down — and a welder fighting their hood is a welder who eventually strikes an arc before it is in position. Arc eye follows.

Replacing headgear costs a fraction of a helmet and restores the helmet to working order.

The 117A is a specific model designation. Welding helmet suspensions are not interchangeable across shells, so confirm your helmet takes 117A headgear before ordering.

Applications include welding operations across fabrication, structural work, shipyards, and maintenance.

Users include welders and shops maintaining crew equipment.
