Irwin IRW14031 Circular Saw Blade 7-1/4" x 40T Trimming/Finishing Universal

The Irwin IRW14031 is a circular saw blade, 7-1/4 inch x 40 tooth, for trimming and finishing, with a universal arbor, carded.

The 40 tooth count is the specification and it defines what this blade is for. Tooth count and cut quality are directly related, and the relationship is a trade rather than a hierarchy. A 24 tooth framing blade removes material fast and leaves a rough edge — which is correct, because framing lumber gets covered up. A 40 tooth blade cuts more slowly and leaves a considerably cleaner edge, which is what trim, finish work, and sheet goods require, because that edge is the visible one.

Using a framing blade on trim produces tearout that has to be filled or hidden. Using a finishing blade to frame a house is slow and burns the blade. Both are the same saw and different work.

The universal arbor is the fitment specification, meaning it accommodates the common arbor configurations rather than one.

7-1/4 inch is the standard portable circular saw size across the trades.

Applications include trim and moulding, finish carpentry, cabinetry, plywood and sheet goods, and any cut where the edge will be seen.

Users include finish carpenters, joiners, cabinet makers, and renovation contractors.

Support the workpiece properly and let the blade reach speed before entering the cut — a 40 tooth blade forced through material burns rather than cuts.
