The Hart & Cooley FPD 08 050502 is an FPD series steel lay-in ceiling diffuser with an 8 inch round neck, finished in white, for a 24 by 24 inch T-bar grid module.

The flush plaque face of the FPD series presents a cleaner ceiling appearance than a stepped cone diffuser, which is why it is frequently specified where the ceiling forms part of the architectural intent. Functionally it discharges supply air radially along the ceiling surface, where the air adheres and travels outward, entraining room air continuously so that it has moderated in temperature before descending into the occupied zone.

The 8 inch neck is the general purpose size for commercial work, handling a moderate airflow at velocities that keep throw and generated sound within typical design criteria for offices and similar occupancies.

Selecting neck size from duct diameter rather than from design airflow is a common and consequential error. Because all sizes occupy the same 24 by 24 inch module, the neck alone determines discharge velocity, and discharge velocity determines throw, ceiling adherence, and noise criteria rating. Checking the selection against published performance data takes little time and avoids outlets that are either audible or draughty.
