Hart & Cooley FPD3 R6 06 064334 White Steel Diffuser

The Hart & Cooley 64334 is an FPD3 series steel lay-in ceiling diffuser with a 6 inch round neck and an integral R-6 insulated back, finished in white, for a 24 by 24 inch T-bar grid module.

Supplying the diffuser with the insulated back as one assembly resolves several problems at once. The back pan is correctly matched to the face rather than approximated with a universal component, the duct connection and the diffuser interface are engineered together so leakage at that junction is controlled, and the installer handles one item instead of two.

The R-6 insulation serves two functions. It meets the thermal performance provisions applying to air distribution components located outside the conditioned envelope, which is the normal condition in an unconditioned ceiling plenum. It also prevents condensation on the back pan exterior, since a pan carrying cooling supply air sits below the dew point of surrounding plenum air. Condensation there drips onto ceiling tiles and produces the staining commonly seen around diffusers in humid climates.

The insulation additionally attenuates duct borne noise, which matters where background sound criteria are specified.

The 6 inch neck is the lowest airflow size in the series, suited to small offices, private rooms, and low load areas.
