Hart & Cooley FPD3 12 050512 White Steel Diffuser T-BAR

The Hart & Cooley 50512 is an FPD3 series steel lay-in ceiling diffuser with a 12 inch round neck, finished in white, for a 24 by 24 inch T-bar grid module.

A 12 inch neck sits toward the upper end of the series and carries a high airflow through a single 24 by 24 inch outlet. This size is specified where a large volume must be delivered from a limited number of ceiling positions, such as open plan floors, large retail areas, assembly spaces, and rooms with high internal or solar gain.

At high airflow, two design checks become important. The first is sound. Generated noise rises steeply with discharge velocity, and a diffuser pushed beyond its comfortable range becomes audible in a quiet office or classroom. The second is throw. A 12 inch neck at design airflow projects air a considerable distance, and in a room too small for that throw the air stream reaches the opposing wall with significant velocity remaining, producing draughts and uneven conditions.

Both are checked against the manufacturer's published performance data rather than estimated, and both argue for distributing airflow across more diffusers rather than fewer where the ceiling layout allows.

Steel construction with a white powder finish is the standard commercial specification. Applications include offices, retail spaces, schools, healthcare, and assembly occupancies. Use an appropriate back pan, support the assembly independently of the grid, and seal the duct connection.
