Hart & Cooley Renps 050356 R6 Diffuser T-BAR Support

The Hart & Cooley 50356 is an R-6 insulated back pan with T-bar support for lay-in ceiling diffusers on the standard 24 by 24 inch grid module.

The R-6 insulation value is the distinguishing specification. Where a lightly insulated back pan addresses condensation, an R-6 pan meets the thermal performance requirements that apply where the ceiling plenum is unconditioned or where energy code provisions require insulation on air distribution components outside the conditioned envelope. It also provides more effective attenuation of duct borne noise, which matters in offices, classrooms, and healthcare spaces where background sound levels are specified.

The condensation function remains important regardless of the code requirement. A pan carrying cooling supply air sits below the dew point of the plenum air around it, and an inadequately insulated pan sweats. The resulting drips stain ceiling tiles and, over time, damage them.

The integral T-bar support is a practical installation feature. A lay-in diffuser with a back pan and an attached flexible duct is a meaningful weight to hang from a ceiling grid, and the support transfers that load properly rather than relying on the grid tee and the diffuser flange. Diffusers that sag below the ceiling plane, a common defect, generally result from inadequate support.
