The Hart & Cooley 50510 is an FPD3 series steel lay-in ceiling diffuser with an 8 inch round neck, finished in white, for a 24 by 24 inch T-bar grid module.

The 8 inch neck is the most commonly specified size in this series for general commercial applications, handling a moderate airflow at velocities that keep both throw and generated noise within typical design criteria for offices and similar occupancies.

Neck sizing deserves more attention than it usually receives. Because every size in the series occupies the same 24 by 24 inch module, it is easy to treat neck size as a duct matching exercise. It is not: the neck determines discharge velocity for a given airflow, and discharge velocity determines throw, the ceiling adherence that prevents cold air dropping into the occupied zone, and the noise criteria rating of the outlet. An undersized neck produces a noisy, high velocity outlet; an oversized one produces air that falls out of the ceiling plane and creates a cold spot below.

The three cone face directs air radially along the ceiling, entraining room air as it travels so that supply air has moderated in temperature by the time it reaches occupants.

Steel construction with a white finish is the standard commercial specification. Applications include offices, retail spaces, schools, and healthcare facilities. Use a suitable back pan, support the assembly independently of the ceiling grid, and seal the duct connection.
