Hart & Cooley Supply Register 684M 14X14 703931 White Metal Handle

The Hart & Cooley 703931 is a 684M series supply register measuring 14 by 14 inches nominal, with four way deflection and a metal damper handle, finished in white.

At 14 by 14 inches this is a large four way register, carrying a substantial supply airflow into an open space from a central position.

Larger outlets carrying more air raise the question of whether one large outlet or several smaller ones better serves a space. Several outlets distributed across a room generally produce more even conditions than one large one, because each establishes its own throw pattern covering a portion of the space, and the room does not depend on a single air stream reaching every corner.

The counter-argument is cost and duct complexity: more outlets mean more branches, more balancing dampers, and more penetrations. In practice the design settles somewhere between, and a large central register in a modest room is often the right answer while the same approach in a large open area is not.

Where a single large outlet is used in a big space, verifying the throw against the actual room dimensions is the check that matters.

The metal damper handle resists the embrittlement that breaks plastic handles over time.

Applications include residential and light commercial supply air outlets in ceilings and floors.
