Hart & Cooley Supply Register 684M 10X10 703929 White Metal Handle

The Hart & Cooley 703929 is a 684M series supply register measuring 10 by 10 inches nominal, with four way deflection and a metal damper handle, finished in white.

Four way deflection distributes supply air in all directions from the outlet, which is the appropriate pattern for a register located away from walls, typically in the middle of a ceiling or in an open floor position.

The square 10 by 10 proportion supports that pattern. A square outlet throws approximately equally in each direction, whereas a long rectangular register inherently distributes more air along its length than across its width, which is why elongated registers are generally specified with one, two, or three way patterns rather than four.

Selecting the deflection pattern to suit the register's position is what determines whether the room circulates properly. A four way register close to a wall throws a quarter of its air directly at that surface, producing a draught along it, depositing dust that marks the wall over time, and wasting throw that should have reached the occupied space.

Where the position is fixed by the duct layout, choosing the pattern to match is the available remedy.

Applications include residential and light commercial supply air outlets in ceilings and floors, particularly in central positions away from walls.
