The Hart & Cooley 75040 is an 821 series vertical supply register measuring 20 by 8 inches nominal, finished in white.

At 20 inches wide this is a long sidewall register, and the proportion suits distributing air across a wide span rather than concentrating it. With vertical face bars directing air horizontally, a register of this length spreads supply air broadly across the room's width.

Long registers introduce the same support consideration as long grilles. A 20 inch span fixed only at its ends will flex, and a flexing frame does not seat flat against the wall. Fixing along the flange rather than at the corners alone keeps it flat and prevents air being drawn from or discharged into the wall cavity around the edges.

The connection behind the register also warrants checking. A long register fitted over a boot substantially smaller than the register face will discharge unevenly, with most of the air emerging from the portion of the face directly over the boot and little from the ends. Where the register is materially larger than the boot, an equalising grid or a transition improves the distribution.
