The Hart & Cooley FPD-U R6 2008419 is a three cone lay-in ceiling diffuser with an R-6 insulated back, for installation in a 24 by 24 inch T-bar grid module.

The three cone face directs supply air outward in a radial pattern along the ceiling surface. Concentric cones at increasing diameters establish the discharge pattern, and the air adheres to the ceiling as it travels, entraining room air continuously so that it has mixed and moderated in temperature before it descends into the occupied zone. This mixing is what separates a comfortable installation from one where occupants feel a cold draught beneath every diffuser.

The R-6 insulated back addresses two requirements simultaneously. It satisfies the thermal performance provisions applying to distribution components located outside the conditioned envelope, which describes a typical unconditioned ceiling plenum. And it prevents condensation forming on the pan exterior, since a pan carrying cooling supply air sits below the dew point of the surrounding plenum air. Condensation there drips onto ceiling tiles and produces the staining routinely found around diffusers in humid climates.

The insulation also attenuates duct borne noise reaching the space, which matters where background sound criteria are specified in offices, classrooms, and healthcare settings.
