ECCO B-Vent Pipe 405INC 4 To 5 Double Wall Increaser

The ECCO 200458 is a double wall Type B vent increaser transitioning from 4 inch to 5 inch diameter.

An increaser is fitted where a vent must transition to a larger diameter, most commonly where a common vent serving two or more appliances requires a larger size than the individual connectors, where vent height and configuration require a larger diameter to develop adequate draft, or where a new appliance connects to an existing larger vent.

Vent size is determined by the tables in the fuel gas code rather than by the size of the appliance outlet. The relevant inputs are appliance input rating in BTU per hour, total vent height, lateral length, the number of appliances on the vent, and the vent type. Common venting two appliances is where increasers most often appear, because the combined input requires more capacity than either connector alone.

Both undersizing and oversizing cause problems. An undersized vent cannot carry the flue products, which spill at the draft hood into the equipment space. An oversized vent allows the flue gases to cool below their dew point, and the resulting condensate is acidic and corrodes the liner from the inside, a failure that typically appears years later as a perforated vent.

Applications include residential and light commercial gas furnace, boiler, and water heater venting, particularly common vent installations.
