DiversiTech Pump Condensate PROCP-22ST

The DiversiTech PROCP-22ST is a condensate pump for air conditioning and refrigeration installations.

The safety switch is the component that separates a condensate pump installation that fails safely from one that causes damage.

A condensate pump will eventually fail. The float may stick, the motor may fail, the impeller may jam with debris, the discharge line may block, or the supply may be interrupted. Condensate continues to be produced regardless, the reservoir fills, and without intervention it overflows.

A safety switch detects the high water condition and interrupts the equipment control circuit, shutting the cooling system down. The customer loses cooling and calls for service, which is a considerably better outcome than water finding its way into a ceiling.

The switch only provides that protection if it is wired in. It is a routine finding to discover pumps with the safety leads taped off, either because the installer did not want the equipment shutting down or because the wiring was not understood at the time. In those installations the switch is present, appears to satisfy an inspection, and does nothing.

Testing the switch is straightforward. Lift the float manually with the system running and confirm the equipment shuts down.

Confirm flow rate at the required lift, tank capacity, voltage, and switch configuration. Wire the safety circuit and verify its operation before leaving site.
