The DiversiTech DF-75 Drain Dawg is a condensate removal pump for air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

Lift capability is the specification that determines whether a condensate pump will work in a given installation, and it is regularly misjudged.

Manufacturers publish a maximum lift or shut off head, which is the vertical height at which the pump can no longer produce flow. That figure is not the working specification. A pump operating at its maximum lift produces essentially no flow, and the useful capacity falls progressively as lift increases.

The installation requirement is the vertical rise from the pump to the highest point of the discharge line, and the horizontal run adds friction on top of that. Selecting a pump whose maximum lift merely exceeds the vertical rise leaves no margin, and the pump then runs continuously without keeping up during periods of heavy condensate production.

Choosing against the manufacturer's flow at the actual lift, rather than against the maximum lift figure, gives a pump that works.

Condensate production itself varies enormously with humidity. A system producing a modest quantity in dry weather can produce several times as much on a humid day, and the pump must handle the peak rather than the average.

Confirm flow rate at the required lift, tank capacity, voltage, and safety switch provision. Route the discharge to rise promptly, then run with continuous fall to the termination.
