The CLC R103M is a medium nylon rain suit for wet weather work.

Layering is what makes working in cold and wet conditions manageable, and rain gear is the outer element of a system rather than a solution on its own.

The principle is three layers. A base layer against the skin that moves moisture away, which should not be cotton since cotton holds moisture and loses all insulating value when wet. An insulating middle layer that traps air. And an outer shell that stops wind and rain.

The reason cotton is specifically unsuitable is worth stating, since it is what most people wear by default. Wet cotton conducts heat away from the body rapidly and takes a long time to dry, which is why it is described in outdoor safety guidance in unflattering terms.

Adjustability matters because activity levels vary through a job. A technician carrying equipment generates considerable heat and then stands still to make connections, and being able to open or shed a layer prevents becoming wet with perspiration.

Extremities lose heat disproportionately, so hands, head, and feet need attention alongside the body.

Confirm the suit allows adequate movement over the layers worn beneath, check closures at cuffs and ankles, and reassess whether conditions permit the work to be done safely as they change.
