CLC Glove Heavy Utility 145M

The CLC 145M is a medium heavy utility work glove for demanding applications.

Impact protection is a separate consideration from cut resistance, and gloves increasingly address both.

The hazard is crushing and impact to the back of the hand and the fingers, which in this trade comes from equipment shifting during handling, components dropping, hands caught between a load and a fixed surface, and the general risk of working with heavy items in confined spaces.

Impact protection typically takes the form of moulded padding across the knuckles, the back of the hand, and the fingers, absorbing and spreading a blow.

The situations where it matters most are material handling and equipment installation. Manoeuvring a compressor, positioning a condensing unit, or handling heavy duct sections all involve the hands being close to the load and to whatever it may be set down against.

The compromise is bulk and reduced flexibility across the back of the hand, which affects gripping and fine manipulation less than palm side padding would.

Impact gloves do not substitute for planning a lift, using appropriate equipment, and keeping hands clear of pinch points, all of which prevent the injury rather than reducing its severity.

Confirm the protection type suits the hazards involved and that the glove fits properly, and never wear gloves around rotating machinery.
