APEX JACJCM13700P20 Chuck Key Steel; Teeth No. 11 Thumb 5/16 Inch 3 Series; 14N

The JACJCM13700P20 is a chuck key with a 5/16 inch pilot size, thumb handle style, in steel, with 11 teeth, used on 3 Series and 14N chucks.

A chuck key is one of the most-lost items in any workshop and one of the most specific. The pilot size and tooth count must match the chuck — the pilot centres the key in the chuck's socket and the teeth engage the chuck's ring gear. A key with the wrong pilot will not seat; a key with the wrong tooth pitch will not mesh, and forcing it damages the chuck's gear teeth, which is an expensive way to save a few dollars.

That is why the compatibility note matters more than any other line in the specification: 5/16 inch pilot, 11 teeth, for 3 Series and 14N chucks. Confirm your chuck before ordering rather than buying the key that looks right.

The thumb handle style is the compact T-form, which supplies adequate leverage for a drill chuck without the bulk of a longer handle.

One safety point that belongs on every chuck key: remove it from the chuck before starting the machine. A key left in a chuck becomes a projectile the instant the motor turns, and this is a well-documented injury.

Applications include drill presses, machine tools, and workshop equipment.
