The Yellow Jacket 21272 is a 6 foot blue PLUS II charging hose for low side connections.

Reading low side pressure correctly requires attention to where and when the reading is taken, since the number alone means little.

Suction pressure varies with evaporator load, ambient conditions, airflow, and the state of the charge, so a reading taken before the system has stabilised will mislead. A system should generally run for a period before readings are relied upon.

The pressure must be converted to a saturation temperature using the correct pressure-temperature relationship for the refrigerant in the system. That saturation temperature, compared against the measured suction line temperature, gives superheat, which is the figure that actually indicates how the evaporator is being fed.

Pressure alone cannot distinguish an undercharge from a restriction, from low airflow, or from a failing metering device, whereas superheat combined with subcooling separates them.

Hose length has no effect on pressure readings, but a hose with a restricted or partially blocked fitting will cause the gauge to respond slowly to changes, which can be mistaken for system behaviour.
