The Yellow Jacket 21260 is a 5 foot blue PLUS II charging hose for low side service.

Refrigerant and oil compatibility is a specification that became critical with the transition away from older refrigerants and their mineral oils.

Systems using hydrofluorocarbon refrigerants generally use polyol ester oil, and POE oil is chemically different from the mineral oil used with earlier refrigerants. Hoses formulated for mineral oil service can degrade in contact with POE, and more importantly, residual mineral oil left in a hose can be carried into a POE system where it does not mix with the system oil and can cause problems.

Barrier hoses, which incorporate a layer resisting refrigerant permeation, are the modern standard and are compatible with current refrigerants and oils. Older non-barrier hoses permeate refrigerant continuously through their walls, which is both a loss and a regulatory issue.

The practical guidance is to use current specification barrier hoses, to confirm compatibility with the refrigerants being handled, and where working across incompatible refrigerant and oil families, to maintain dedicated hose sets.

Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning service and charging.
