The Yellow Jacket 21248 is a 4 foot blue PLUS II charging hose for low side connections.

Hose gaskets are the most frequently overlooked consumable in refrigeration service, and they account for a large share of the leaks technicians spend time chasing.

The gasket at each hose end seals against the service port face. Over time it hardens, takes a permanent set, cracks, or is simply lost when the hose is disconnected. A hose with a failed gasket leaks continuously while connected, which wastes refrigerant, gives misleading readings during a pressure test, and makes a vacuum impossible to hold.

The last of these is particularly troublesome, because a technician attempting to evacuate a system with a leaking hose gasket will conclude the system has a leak and spend considerable time searching for it.

Checking gaskets before connecting, and carrying replacements, prevents this. Replacement gaskets are inexpensive and take moments to fit.

A useful discipline is to evacuate the manifold and hoses alone, isolated from the system, when a vacuum will not hold. If the manifold alone will not hold vacuum, the leak is in the equipment rather than the system.
