The Uniweld G30LD is a low side blue manifold gauge for refrigeration service.

Manifold gauges are replaceable items, and understanding when to replace one rather than the whole manifold saves money and downtime.

Gauges fail in recognisable ways. A gauge that does not return to zero when disconnected and vented has lost calibration, and while some gauges permit adjustment, one that drifts repeatedly is finished. A gauge whose needle moves erratically or sticks has internal damage, usually from being dropped or from overpressure. A gauge with a fogged or cracked lens may still read accurately but cannot be read reliably.

Overpressure is the commonest cause of damage, and it occurs when a low side gauge is exposed to high side pressure, typically through a manifold valve error or a hose connected to the wrong port.

Gauge accuracy matters because every diagnostic conclusion rests on it. A low side gauge reading a few pounds high leads directly to an incorrect assessment of charge.

Checking that gauges read zero at atmospheric pressure, before each use, takes a moment.
