Shurtape Duct Tape DC181 2" UL181 Black 205330

The Shurtape 205330 DC181 is a two inch black tape listed to UL 181 for duct sealing.

Where tape rather than mastic is the appropriate sealing method depends on the joint.

Tape suits regular, accessible joints on clean sheet metal: longitudinal seams, straight transverse joints, and connections where the surfaces are flat and the tape can be pressed down across its full width.

Mastic suits irregular shapes, awkward transitions, gaps wider than a tape can bridge, and connections at equipment cabinets where the geometry is complicated. It is also better where access is poor, since mastic can be brushed into a position a roll of tape cannot reach.

Many installations use both, with tape on the straightforward seams and mastic at the equipment connections and complex fittings.

Where mastic and tape are combined at the same joint, mastic tape products bridge the two approaches by carrying mastic on a tape backing.

Whichever is used, the sequence is the same. Mechanically fasten the joint, clean the surfaces of dust and mill oil, apply the seal completely along the full length, and allow any specified cure before pressurising.

Sealing most of a joint achieves considerably less than the proportion suggests, because air concentrates through whatever gap remains.

Confirm the listing, temperature range, and width suit the application, and press the tape down firmly across its full width.
