Shurtape Duct 2" Black UL P 201885

The Shurtape 201885 is a two inch black UL listed tape for duct sealing applications.

Colour choice in duct sealing tapes has a practical dimension beyond appearance.

Exposed ductwork in commercial interiors, retail spaces, and architecturally exposed structure is visible to occupants, and black tape on black painted spiral duct is far less conspicuous than a metallic or white product.

The listing requirement does not change with colour. A tape used to seal duct must carry the appropriate UL 181 or equivalent listing regardless of what colour it is, and a black general purpose cloth tape is not interchangeable with a black listed duct tape despite looking similar on the roll.

This is a place where errors occur, because the two products can appear almost identical and the difference is visible only in the printing on the backing or on the roll core.

Checking the marking rather than the appearance is the reliable approach, and keeping listed and general purpose tapes separated on the vehicle prevents the wrong roll being picked up.

Application requirements are unchanged. Clean, dry surfaces free of mill oil, firm pressure across the full width to achieve adhesive contact, adequate overlap at ends and joins, and mechanical fastening completed before sealing.
