Hardcast Duct Tape AB-151 3" X 150 Fiberglass

The Hardcast 310553 AB-151 is a three inch by 150 foot fibreglass reinforced duct tape.

Reinforcement changes what a tape can do. A fibreglass scrim embedded in the tape carries tensile load, resisting stretching and tearing in a way an unreinforced backing cannot.

The practical consequences are several. The tape holds its dimension rather than creeping under load, so a seam does not gradually open. It resists tearing during application, which matters when working overhead or pulling tape from a roll at an awkward angle. And it bridges gaps and irregularities better than an unreinforced product.

Reinforced tapes are therefore specified where the joint sees movement or where the tape must hold a connection under some load, such as at flexible duct connections and at transitions.

The reinforcement does not change the requirements for surface preparation or for the listing the product must carry. Clean, dry metal free of mill oil remains the requirement, and duct sealing materials must carry the appropriate UL 181 or equivalent listing to satisfy code.

Mechanical fastening still comes first. Tape of any specification is a seal rather than a structural connection, and a joint that moves will eventually defeat any tape.

Confirm the listing, temperature range, and width suit the application, and apply with firm pressure across the full width onto prepared surfaces.
