Hardcast Foil Tape -20F To 200F 304100

The Hardcast 304100 is a foil tape rated for service from minus 20 to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, used for sealing and joining in HVAC applications.

Foil tape differs from cloth backed tape in the properties that matter for duct and insulation work.

The aluminium backing is impermeable, so the tape acts as a vapour barrier as well as an air seal. That property is essential when sealing insulation on cold surfaces, where the objective is to prevent humid air reaching the cold face and condensing within the insulation.

Insulation that has become wet loses most of its thermal value and does not dry, and the moisture corrodes what it surrounds. Sealing the vapour barrier properly at every seam and penetration is what prevents it.

Foil also reflects radiant heat and tolerates a wider temperature range than most cloth tapes without the adhesive failing.

The stated temperature range covers the conditions found on chilled and refrigerant lines at the low end and on warm duct at the upper end.

Application requires a clean, dry surface and firm pressure, ideally with a squeegee, to achieve full adhesive contact. Tape applied by hand pressure alone frequently has voids beneath it.

Confirm the tape carries the listing required for the application, that the temperature range suits the service, and that the width provides adequate overlap onto sound material.
