DiversiTech 3/4 X 76 Electrical Tape 33+SUPER

The DiversiTech 33+SUPER is a roll of electrical tape measuring 3/4 inch by 76 feet, used for insulating and protecting electrical connections.

Electrical tape has a defined role and is misapplied constantly.

Its legitimate uses are insulating a connection that has been made properly by other means, protecting a splice, bundling conductors, identifying circuits by colour, and providing an outer wrap over a completed connection.

What it does not do is make a connection. A joint held together with tape is a mechanical failure waiting to happen, and taped connections in equipment are a recognised finding during fault diagnosis. Conductors must be joined by an approved method, whether a wire nut, a crimped terminal, or a terminal block, with tape used only over that.

Quality differences between tapes are real. Premium grades retain their adhesive over a wide temperature range and resist the unwinding that occurs when cheap tape is applied over a warm component. Tape that has unwound leaves a bare connection and a sticky residue.

Application technique matters. Tape should be applied under moderate tension with each wrap overlapping the last by about half its width, starting and finishing on sound insulation.

Confirm the tape's voltage rating and temperature range suit the application, and that it is listed for electrical use rather than a general purpose product.
