Shurtape Duct Tape AF984 3" Scrmfoil TAPE 232036

The Shurtape 232036 AF984 is a three inch scrim reinforced foil tape for HVAC sealing applications.

Scrim reinforcement embeds a fibreglass or polyester mesh within the tape, adding tensile strength that plain foil does not have.

Plain aluminium foil is soft and tears readily, both during application and in service if the joint moves or the tape is snagged. A torn vapour barrier is an open vapour barrier, and the condensation problem it was fitted to prevent resumes.

Reinforced tape resists that tearing, holds its dimension under load, and bridges gaps and irregularities more effectively.

The applications that most benefit are joints subject to movement, connections where the tape carries some load, insulation on lines that expand and contract with temperature, and any location where the tape may be handled or abraded after installation.

The reinforcement makes the tape stiffer, so it conforms less readily to tight curves and complex shapes. On small diameter pipe insulation a plain foil may lie down better.

The vapour barrier requirement is unchanged. Every seam, butt joint, and penetration must be sealed completely, since moisture entering at one point migrates along the annular space and wets insulation well away from the defect.

Confirm the temperature rating, width, and any required listing against the application, and apply to clean, dry surfaces with firm pressure using a squeegee.
