The Shurtape 232032 AF975 is an aluminium foil tape for HVAC sealing and insulation applications.

Aluminium foil tape performs a role that cloth and film tapes cannot, because the metal backing is impermeable to water vapour.

That property is what makes it the correct material for sealing insulation on cold surfaces. Chilled water lines, refrigerant suction lines, and cold duct all operate below the dew point of the surrounding air, and any path allowing humid air to reach the cold surface produces condensation inside the insulation.

Insulation that has become wet loses most of its thermal value and does not dry out in service. The moisture then sits against the pipe or duct, corroding it steadily and invisibly.

Every seam, butt joint, and penetration in the vapour barrier must be sealed for the barrier to function, and a single unsealed joint compromises a whole run because moisture migrates along the space between insulation and pipe.

Foil tape also reflects radiant heat and tolerates a wide temperature range without the adhesive failing.

Application requires clean, dry surfaces and firm pressure with a squeegee. Foil is unforgiving of poor application, since it does not conform to irregularities without being worked down.
