Product Highlights
Description
The Shook 3067210x2 is a supply of number 10 by 2 inch self drilling screws for applications requiring greater length.
Long screws behave differently from short ones during driving, and the differences matter.
A 2 inch screw has more shank between the driver and the point, and that length can flex. A screw started out of square will wander, and the flex makes it harder to feel that it is going in crooked. Starting square and keeping the driver in line is more important than on a short screw.
Driving torque is higher, because there is more thread engaging and more friction along the shank. This raises the chance of the driver camming out and damaging the head, and increases the risk of the screw twisting off if the point stalls.
The drilling phase is unchanged. The point capacity determines what thickness can be drilled, and the extra length does not help with that at all. A long screw driven into material thicker than its point can handle will stall exactly as a short one would.
Where the screw passes through soft material such as insulation before reaching steel, the point does not begin working until it arrives, and steady pressure through that section keeps it advancing.
Confirm gauge, length, point capacity, head style, and finish against the assembly, and drive square at moderate speed.
