The Shook 11060 is a 250 piece box of number 8 by 2 inch Jiffy Point self drilling screws for applications requiring greater length.

A 2 inch self drilling screw serves a different purpose from the short screws used for sheet to sheet duct joints. This length is used where the fastener must pass through a thicker assembly, through insulation, or into structural material behind the sheet.

Typical applications include fastening duct or equipment to timber framing, securing through layers of insulation or duct board, and mounting brackets and supports where the fixing must reach material some distance behind the surface.

The point capacity is the specification to check, not the length. A long screw with a small point can drill only thin material, and the length simply means it spans a greater distance before the threads engage. Where the screw must drill through heavier steel, the point must be rated for that thickness regardless of the screw's length.

Thread engagement in the receiving material is what provides holding power. A long screw passing mostly through insulation with only a short length engaged in solid material holds no better than a short screw would in the same substrate.

Longer screws also require more driving torque and are more likely to snap if driven at an angle or into material beyond the point's capacity.
