The Duro Dyne 14342 is a 500 piece box of 1/4 inch drill and tap screws for sheet metal fastening.

Head style and driver selection are worth attention on high volume fastening work, because the failure they cause is cumulative.

Hex washer heads are the common choice for sheet metal, driven with a nut setter or magnetic hex socket. The engagement is positive, torque transmits without any tendency to cam out, and the integral washer spreads the bearing load across the sheet.

The driver must fit correctly. A worn nut setter, or one a size off, rounds the head under load. A rounded screw head cannot be driven further and cannot easily be removed, and on a duct assembly that means either leaving it or cutting it out.

Nut setters are consumable and should be replaced when they begin to slip. Magnetic setters that have lost their magnetism slow the work considerably, since the screw has to be held by hand for every fastener.

Driving square to the work is the other requirement. A screw started at an angle drills an elongated hole, seats unevenly, and holds poorly, and on a visible assembly it looks careless.

Confirm gauge, length, point capacity, head style, and finish against the application, and keep driver bits and setters in good condition.
