Robertshaw Refrigeration Cold Control A30-261

The Robertshaw A30-261 is a refrigeration cold control for commercial refrigeration temperature regulation.

Capillary tubes on temperature controls are more fragile than they appear, and their handling during installation determines whether the control lasts.

The capillary carries the fluid connecting the bulb to the control body, and a kink, a sharp bend, or a fracture releases the charge and disables the control entirely. There is no repair; a control with a damaged capillary is scrap.

Practical handling rules follow from this. Uncoil the capillary rather than pulling it straight. Avoid bends tighter than the manufacturer's minimum radius. Do not shorten it, which is occasionally attempted where the run is longer than needed; excess should be coiled neatly and secured. Route it where it will not be flexed repeatedly, walked on, or trapped by a door or panel.

Excess capillary coiled inside a cabinet should be secured so it does not vibrate against surrounding metal, which produces fatigue over time.

The bulb itself should be secured properly with the clamp provided rather than left loose, since its position determines the control's behaviour.

Applications include commercial refrigeration, coolers, freezers, and food service refrigeration equipment.
