Mueller Gas Connector G012YE101036

The Mueller G012YE101036 is a 36 inch coated flexible gas connector used to connect gas appliances to rigid supply piping.

Capacity is a specification that installers regularly overlook, on the assumption that a connector matching the appliance's connection size will deliver adequate gas.

That assumption is not safe. A connector has a flow capacity determined by its internal diameter and its length, and the corrugated internal surface produces considerably more resistance than smooth pipe of the same nominal size. A longer connector delivers less than a shorter one of identical diameter.

Where the connector cannot deliver the appliance's full input, the result is a gas pressure at the appliance below its requirement. The burner then operates below its rated input, which reduces output and, more seriously, can produce incomplete combustion.

The symptoms include an appliance that will not reach temperature, a furnace that runs continuously without satisfying the thermostat, and in the worst cases sooting and carbon monoxide production.

Manufacturers publish capacity tables giving the input each connector size and length will support for natural gas and for propane. Checking the appliance input against that table takes moments.

Confirm the connector's capacity rating against the appliance input rating, along with length and connection sizes. Never reuse a connector, keep it accessible and unconcealed, provide a shutoff valve, and leak test all joints.
